“I know I have the body but of a weak and feeble woman; but I have the heart and stomach of a king, and of a king of England too, and think foul scorn that Parma or Spain, or any prince of Europe, should dare to invade the borders of my realm; to which rather than any dishonour shall grow by me, I myself will take up arms, I myself will be your general, judge, and rewarder of every one of your virtues in the field”
Queen of the High Street is a blog-based project from Revolutionary Arts. Through his work with the Empty Shops Network and as author of Pop Up Business For Dummies, Revolutionary Arts director Dan Thompson has travelled from one end of England to the other, meeting inspirational people who aren’t waiting for the high street to die, but are getting on with making it better. Many of them are women, many are working as volunteers, many are determined to make the places they live better for their families and all of them are giving the extra effort to make a difference. They’re taking up arms, they’re the Queens of the High Street and this blog is about them.
PS Here at Revolutionary Arts HQ, we’re anarchist republicans so we’ll be crowning a new queen on a regular basis. Follow this blog or the #queenofthehighstreet hashtag on Twitter for updates!
